You better wise up, cause I'll rise up

Remember studying Greek mythology in school?

Mostly boring right?

Author Rick Riordan made it more accessible to school kids with a book series on children of the Greek gods. That turned into a panned movie . . . and a cult musical hit in 2015 that I had no idea existed until Suzart released it's 2024 season.

You have to do this! said my teenage daughter.

I'm glad I did.

This kid cast of almost thirty teens was a joy to work with and they delivered a fantastic five-night sold-out run. I got to play fun catchy music with a fantastic band and enjoyed the process rather than stressing about missed cues and mistakes - because there were so few! Super proud of everyone involved in this show.

As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can’t control, a destiny he doesn’t want, and a mythology textbook’s worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus’s master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. He must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and come to terms with the father who abandoned him. Adapted from the best-selling book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and featuring a thrilling original rock score, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is an action-packed mythical adventure “worthy of the gods” (Time Out New York).
Kid cast had the memory of a sponge. Very few missed lines or cues. The toughest thing about this show was our lead Percy was a baritone instead of a tenor so we had to rearrange some of the vocal lines to accomodate.

Also very fortunate to work with some talented bandmates who not only gave me 4 band only sessions - but also joined in another 3-4 rehearsals plus a sitzprobe. Our dress rehearsal run was tight and something I would have been proud of on closing night.

The Gods would have been pleased.
