Jafar was the good guy?
There are thousands of musicals out there I've never heard of. Like Twisted - created by StarKid Prouductions in 2013. Until a friend reached out and asked me to musically direct the show and promising me I would love it.
I said no. He pestered.
I said no. He pestered some more.
I said no. He persevered.
And so I finally listened to the music. And fell in love with the smart lyrics, the Disney infused melodies, and the script which was full of clever inside jokes poking fun at the magic kingdom.
And I said yes.

Long ago in a Magic Kingdom, one misunderstood Royal Vizier will go on a quest to save his city from its bumbling sultan, an invading prince, and the most notorious thief to ever live! With the help of the Kingdom’s free-spirited, teenage Princess, the Vizier must find a magical lamp containing a wish-granting Djinn (who’s really funny, by the way) and defeat the city’s most-wanted criminal… Aladdin!
This musical adventure celebrates and lovingly pokes fun at everyone’s favorite series of hand-drawn, animated films.

Normally a show commitment lasts about three months. You learn the music. The choreography. The dialogue. And bam - you're on stage in a whirlwind amount of time.
COVID changed all that. Twisted was initially cast in June 2020 with the production team hoping the first wave would die out over the summer and we would be among the first groups ready to perform live in the fall.
Nope. We were postponed three times before finally managing to perform live in December 2021 one day before another provincial edict closing down live theater performances.
